Ridley Bikes was started in 1997 by Jochim Aerts, a frame builder and painter who had been producing frames for Belgian bicycle companies since 1990. In a few years, Ridley became the market leader in Belgium for racing bikes. Since it's early start technological innovation and a customer experience have always been a part of the company's DNA.The Belgian bike builder is especially proud of its 'Customizer' and 'Pure Line' models that allow customers to personalize the build of their bike on a very detailled level.
We live in an age of streams. Our music, content, movies and social interactions are available on demand to enrich our experiences throughout the day. Thanks to the 'Internet of Things', soon objects will become streams as well. Capturing data and giving feedback, allowing for all new kinds of interactions. Ridley is using these technological possibilities to build an entirely new type of smart bike. We helped them to define the experience design for it.
We facilitated a co-creation workshop with Ridley and its technical partner 23:Seconds to understand the possibilities of the new bike. In close collaboration initial concepts were transformed into comprehensive experience designs and a software prototype. Different applications were launched to power the bike experience. Careful attention was put into small details that matter to demanding cyclists, like f.i. flexible usability on the go, in-depth performance data and pro-active security features.
Throughout the project we made sure to combine a top-notch visual execution with great user experience. We developed a sleek, but effective interface that works well on a wide range of devices and in the most demanding circumstances. To communicate Ridley Connect's key features and differentiators we also created a promotional video that was launched through multiple online marketing channels.
